Overview
The Construction Management programme is a unique course on developing the builders of tomorrow with a particular focus on project management and construction technologies while maintaining an interdisciplinary perspective exposure to architecture, engineering and quantity surveying. The programme aims to equip students with a focused foundation in the principles, theories and practices of construction management and to be adaptable to an ever evolving global construction outlook.

Students are introduced to the current technologies, skills and the best practices of the industry. Problem based learning is applied in assignments, mid-term and finals evaluations as well as final year projects. To enhance their learning, students are brought to site visits for exposure to industry practices besides the compulsory three (3) months industrial training internship. Industry speakers also routinely visit the campus to present talks to the students on various issues relevant to the construction industry. The extra-curricular activities are well supported by the “Built Environment Society” which also organizes the annual “Green Card” safety and health seminars accredited by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB). The development of the programme is accredited by Chartered Institute of Buildings (CIOB) and Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). The graduates of the programme are able to secure jobs locally as well as abroad; for instant, 90% of UTAR Construction Management graduates secured jobs directly after graduation and 20% found jobs overseas, testifying our students are well-received by the employers even on the international level, with most in the project managerial level at various capacities

Program outline

Construction managers are in-charge of overseeing and leading a variety of construction projects for clients from start to finish. They are in-charge of creating and maintaining schedules, keeping track of finances, and ensuring that everyone is completing their duties and responsibilities as scheduled and ensuring that all project deliverables are achieved successfully. Construction managers also deal with the numerous working relationships that exist on a job site and help guarantee that the workplace is free of safety concerns.
