Class of 2019 — Environmental, Occupational Safety and Health

"I was grateful to enrol the Bachelor of Science (Honours) Environmental, Occupational Safety & Health programme. Initially, I was in the dilemma about this programme as it was just newly introduced in UTAR in 2019. However, I soon discovered that it offered a fascinating and challenging curriculum. The relationships between lecturers and students are excellent, which is what I love the most about this programme. It allows us to share our thoughts and experiences, which made me feel more committed to it. Additionally, I was exposed to different industrial fields and working environments during my internship period, which helped expand my soft skills development, improve my communication skills and enhance my working experience. Today, I find myself seamlessly applying the theoretical knowledge acquired during my bachelor's degree programme in my current workplace. A few pieces of advice for my junior: treasure the moments spent in university, as they may become cherished memories once you embark on your professional journey. While grades certainly hold importance, never underestimate the significance of cultivating strong social and communication skills. Be bold, embrace challenges, and endeavor to live a life free of regrets. Always remember to pursue what truly brings you joy!"

Class of 2022 — Construction Management

"As a proud alumnus of Tunku Abdul Rahman University’s (UTAR) Construction Management course, I describe that this course played a pivotal role in my career and enriched my personal growth. From the very beginning, I was impressed by the program’s comprehensive curriculum, which covered essential areas such as project planning, risk and safety management, health management, and advanced construction techniques. The lecturers at UTAR are exceptionally knowledgeable, approachable, and committed to nurturing critical and innovative thinking among students. Their dedication provided me with the skills and confidence to transition smoothly into the professional world. That said, I believe the course could be further strengthened by incorporating more practical exercises to better bridge the gap between theory and real-world applications. Beyond academics, my university life was filled with fond memories of laughter, late-night study sessions, and countless unforgettable moments shared with my course mates. These experiences enriched my journey and built lifelong friendships. Among the highlights of my time at UTAR were the student exchange program and a collaborative workshop with the Shibaura Institute of Technology. These experiences gave me valuable insights into international construction practices, exposed me to a different culture, and fostered meaningful friendships between Malaysians and Japanese students. Looking back, my years at UTAR shaped not only my professional career but also my character. Despite the challenges of balancing academics with extracurricular opportunities, I wholeheartedly recommend the Construction Management program to anyone aspiring to build a successful career in this dynamic industry. Currently, I’m attached to PEC PTE LTD, Singapore, as a Project Engineer."
