Meeting With Students

On 10th July 2024, the Faculty of Engineering & Green Technology (FEGT) at Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) hosted an orientation meeting for new students at Block E, E111, Kampar Campus. Dr. Lee Yu Jen warmly welcomed students joining the Bachelor of Electronics Engineering with Honours and Bachelor of Technology (Honours) in Electronic Systems programmes for the June 2024 semester, commending their choice and highlighting electronics as a thriving industry trend.

Dr. Lee emphasized integrity as the cornerstone of their journey, cautioning against cutting corners in product development, which could harm consumers, including their own families. He stressed that integrity in university means avoiding cheating in examinations.

In the classroom, students will learn the fundamentals of electronics engineering. They are encouraged to explore further independently, as electronics is a broad discipline with diverse fields of interest. Class attendance is mandatory, and students who do not attend at least 80% of classes will be barred from final examinations.

Each student is assigned an academic advisor and should meet them once or twice per semester for general academic guidance. To restructure their programme or avoid timetable clashes, students must consult their advisors early in the prior semester to allow the academic advisor and Faculty General Office to make necessary arrangements.

Dr. Lee urged students to network with classmates and peers across the department, faculty, and campus. These connections will be valuable after graduation when seeking work and opportunities.

To accommodate back-to-back classes across different blocks, department members will end classes earlier and start later.

Dr. Lee also advised vigilance against scammers, noting that online job scams are particularly prevalent among students.

Students were encouraged to explore extracurricular activities, join clubs, and build their resumes to enhance their university experience. Student representatives from the IEM Student Section, MBOT Student Chapter, and AIESEC promoted their clubs and activities. The department highlighted a successful company visit to Intel last semester as an example of enriching opportunities.

Dr. Lee advised students to manage their time effectively to balance academics and activities. He concluded with a rallying call: “Be proud to be a UTARIAN!”

The meeting was attended by 114 students.
