Meeting With Students

Dr. Lee Yu Jen welcomed the students and encouraged them to be confident and proud of their choice to study at UTAR. Students were motivated to maintain a positive mindset, embrace new learning opportunities, and make the most of the academic and co-curricular experiences available to them.
During the session, Dr. Lee highlighted that electronics engineering remains a strong and relevant field, particularly as the market sees a saturation of IT graduates. With increasing reliance on physical systems and devices, hardware has become a key bottleneck, creating opportunities for graduates with solid electronics and hardware skills. Students were encouraged to manage their time effectively, work well in teams, present ideas clearly, and take initiative in learning new skills to stay competitive in the industry.
Students were encouraged to actively participate in competitions, industrial talks, and co-curricular activities. It was noted that senior teams often face challenges in recruiting members for competitions, and students were urged to step forward and gain experience despite constraints such as limited hardware resources.
The role of academic advisors was explained, and students were encouraged to meet their advisors every semester to review their programme structure and address any academic or personal concerns. Students were also reminded to make appointments when consulting lecturers, as lecturers may not always be available without prior arrangement.
In addition, students were advised to look after their batchmates and foster a supportive learning environment. Safety reminders were shared, including exercising caution when visiting nearby waterfalls in Kampar, especially during the rainy season, and remaining vigilant against scams targeting students.
Dr. Lee also highlighted the importance of making full use of campus facilities such as the library, gym, laboratories, and the Vitrox lab, which are available for study, revision, and project work between classes. Students were encouraged to join student clubs and societies, including the IEM Student Chapter, UMC, AISAC, and art-related clubs, to enrich their university experience.
A total of 116 students attended the meeting.
