A webinar entitled “Introduction to Oppstar and Career Talk” has been conducted on 3rd December 2021 via Microsoft Teams. The objective of this webinar were to give an introduction to Oppstar Technology Sdn. Bhd. and career paths in IC design industry to undergraduate students. 

The speaker is Mr. Lim Kean Harn, the Design Engineering Director of the company. Mr. Lim has over 20 years of experience in VLSI design industry and was involved in the tape-out of over 60 IC chips in diverse market segments.

The students were given an trends that is driving growth in the semiconductor industry. Examples are internet of things, 5G, artificial intelligence, virtual reality and autonomous driving.

Realization of the trends of tomorrow requires the input of a lot of electronic engineers in the field of IC Design. Engineers can realize designs through application specific integrated circuits (ASIC) or field programmable logic arrays (FPGA). There are pros and cons for both approach and it depends on the requirements of each project.

Mr. Lim Kean Harn introduced Oppstar Technologies Sdn. Bhd., the largest local IC design house in Malaysia. Oppstar’s core business focuses on upstream semiconductor industry which is design and development. The company’s expertise is mainly in ultra-deep sub-micron finFET design technology.
