Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) 2019
1st – 3rd November 2019
The Department of Petrochemical Engineering UTAR has been participated in Kuala Lumpur Engineering Science Fair (KLESF) which is aiming to introduce science to general public, particularly elementary or high school students. There are four staffs joining this event: Dr. Yamuna Munusamy, Dr. Gobi Kanadasan, Dr. Mathialagan Muniyadi, Dr. Ong Yit Thai and Dr. Yeoh Wei Ming.
In hands-on workshop, we organized Chem-Balloon Car’s Competition in which chemical mixture (sodium bicarbonate and vinegar) is employed for gas production for the motion-actuation of self-made car. In this competition, students are required to store the produced gas in the balloon by using any methods that based on students’ innovation. The car that travelled longest distance wins the competition.
In addition, we also demonstrated STEM hands-on experiments entitled “Could you help John to treat the water?” in KLESF. The objective of this experiment is to introduce the concept of filtration to students, construct a simple filtration system using various filtration materials and identify the effect of various filtration materials on treating pollutant water.
