Technical Seminar: Central Processing Unit (CPU) An Overview of the Modern x86 CPU and Its Internal Building Blocks

11th November 2021

A webinar entitled “Central Processing Unit (CPU) An Overview of the Modern x86 CPU and Its Internal Building Blocks” has been conducted on 11th November 2021 via Microsoft Teams. The objective of this webinar was to give an overview of the latest trends of CPU architecture to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The speaker of this webinar was Mr. Tan Sih Pin, a SoC Design Verification Engineer from Intel Microelectronics. He gave an brief account of the history of the term CPU and how it evolved over the years. In the past past, CPUs were designed based on the end user requirement of either power or performance. That changed with Intel's 12th Gen Intel® Core™ Processor Family, which combined both power and performance CPU cores.

There were a total of 66 audiences who attended to this webinar, including UTAR students and staff as well as public community.
