Technical Seminar by Petronas - Automation in the Oil & Gas Industry - Adapting to Changes 29 August 2022 Department of Electronic Engineering hosted Ir. Surendren from Petronas for a seminar titled "Automation in the Oil & Gas Industry - Adapting to Changes." Ir. Surendren has 20 years of experience in the field of Instrumentation & Control, specializing in the field of Machinery Control. He is a Professional Engineer with
the Board of Engineers Malaysia, certified TUV Functional Safety Engineer and
ISA Cybersecurity Fundamentals Specialist. He is also currently the Treasurer for
International Society of Automation (ISA Malaysia Section) for 2021-2023. Ir. Surendren gave an overview of the oil and gas industry, which includes production, exploration, liquefying, processing and refining. The equipment for the processes use sensors and controllers to maintain optimal operation condition. With more sensors being available and at cheaper prices, more can be installed for better monitoring of the processes. Advancement in wireless telecommunication technology allows more information to be relayed to the control systems, allowing for better and faster response to situations that may arise.
